In my natural journey I have had the hardest time finding good puddings and hair smoothies that moisturize my hair without weighing it down. And when I do find that perfect pudding or smoothie, it never plays that nicely with my gel (i.e. flakes, dull hair, etc). So when I saw that Bask & Bloom had a pudding and a gel (both with Aloe vera as main ingredients) I approached testing them out with guarded excitement.
Now I had no doubts about the quality because there has yet to be a product from Bask & Bloom that my hair hasn’t liked. I also know my hair thrives with Aloe vera, but nonetheless I was scarred from past experiences and did not want to get my hopes up too high.
Well honey, let me tell you, as always Bask & Bloom delivered! This combo is a match made in hair heaven and when I say my curls are poppin', I mean they are POPPIN’!
What's In The Combo?
Silky Aloe Curl Pudding
Product Description: A hair styler that conditions and seals moisture while defining curls. Reduces frizz, boosts shine and gives a soft hold. Perfect for twists, braids or protective styles.
Best to use after applying our More Moisture Cream or a leave in conditioner as this is an oil-based product to lock in moisture and style.
Ingredients: Aloe Vera Gel, Unrefined Shea Butter, Olive Oil infused with Hibiscus Petal Flower, Orange Peel, Horsetail and Sea Kelp; Aloe Butter Castor oil, Jojoba oil, Glycerin, Avocado Oil, Vitamin E, Optiphen (paraben and formaldehyde-free preservative) and Essential Oil Blend.
Price: $14.00 (about average for quality products with organic ingredients)
Smell: Light and fruity (this is how the website describes it and I agree with that). I love hair products with a distinct smell, but sometimes they can be overpowering. This pudding smells very fresh and it’s definitely not overwhelming!
Overall thoughts: I immediately fell in love with the texture of the Curl Pudding. It’s whipped to perfection and just the right consistently to rub together in my hands to evenly cover every strand of hair! I usually apply this to my hair right after using the “More” moisture cream, but sometimes I can just spritz my hair with a water mix and then use the pudding as my moisturizer. I typically only do this if I am refreshing my hair though because on clean hair I always start with a leave-in/moisture cream of some sort.
I love that this product does not have to be layered with a gel to give amazing definition. This Silky pudding can stand alone, be layered over the “More” moisture cream for amazing definition with a lighter hold, or you can add gel over it to give more hold and still not worry about flakes!
I will caution that you don’t re-apply this product daily because it does lead to some build up after 3-4 days (a personal lesson I learned, smh). And that is honestly another reason to love it-- you don’t have to keep reapplying which means the product will last longer #winning!
To activate the product the next day, all you really have to do is add a little water and a bit of oil and you are set!
Twirly Hair Gel
Product Description: Conditioning and moisturizing styling gel. Defines curls, promotes shine and controls frizz, works well with other stylers. Light to moderate hold. Alcohol-Free and Carbomer-Free
Ingredients: Aloe Vera Whole Leaf Juice, Flaxseed Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Water, DL Panthenol, Wheat Germ Oil, Horsetail Extract, Honey Quat, Xanthin Gum, Silver Dihydrogen Citrate, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance
Price: $14 (8 oz.)
Scent: Fresh and fruity (I looove the way this smells!)
Overall thoughts: Let me just say that this gel is EVERYTHING! Okay maybe I’m being dramatic, but seriously, I haven’t found a gel that I’ve loved this much in a long time.
A little goes a long way, especially when it’s paired with the Silky Aloe Pudding. This gel is great for setting styles, slicking edges and defining curls. With most gels I have used they are good for one or maybe two of those things, but the Twirly gel does it all! See examples below, slick edges for my faux poof, amazing curl poppage for my wash-n-go (pictured above) and amazing definition for Twist-Outs.
How I Use the Combo for a Wash-N-Go
It’s really simple! On freshly washed hair, I apply my moisturizer all over my hair to start.
Next, I apply the Silky Curl Pudding first in a smoothing motion, then I go through and gently rake through small sections of my hair to make sure the pudding is distributed evenly.
Finally, using about a quarter- maybe silver dollar- sized portion of the Twirly Hair Gel I rake through my curls to lock in the definition and shine!
And that’s it! Now that my hair is getting longer I’m gonna change it up a little, but stay tuned for that!
As always thanks so much for reading!
