For me it has been a time of planning, preparation, and networking! I was excited to attend the first Creatives of Color meet up at Federal Coffee this past Monday 1/14/19 and announced a collaborative project a few girlfriends (Charlie and Mariah) and I are planning— Black Creatives Weekend!

More to come on that wonderful event. But for now I wanted to show you all a glimpse at some of the work I have published over my content creation journey! Click on the titles below to be directed to the sites where this work was published!

Mommy Moves on Melanin Voices Podcast + The Art of Networking Across

Have you ever met someone and just instantly clicked? When I met Mariah and Una it was just like that! I met Mariah in a completely chill atmosphere, we chopped it up for a while and vibed so well, I knew she would be perfect for an idea I had in mind. I had recently met a few other women (heyy Angie & Keyy) and came up with the idea to host a watch party for the HBO show Insecure. I knew that Mariah would be an amazing co-host for the event and when she let me know she was one of the hosts of the Melanin Voices podcast, I was even more excited because I knew that having multiple hosts would make it that much more relatable to the crowd! And I ultimately clicked with Una, (Melanin Voices co-host) just as much when we met! Her demeanor was just so cool and she is a true girls’ girl like me so I was super excited to have her on board as well!

We have a tendency of trying to network up, but it’s really about networking across… Who's next to you? Who's struggling? Who's in the trenches with you? Who's just as hungry as you are? And those are the people that you need to build with."  Issa Rae

We were (and still sort of are) all in the early stages of our respective content creation/event curating journeys and we all recognized how much we could support one another by coming together to fill a need to create a safe space in Denver to celebrate being a millennial Black woman. And because we were able to fill this need, the inaugural event was a huge success with a sea of beautiful Black, professional, millennial women gathered together, talking shit and watching Issa and her crew. I knew then that these young women were special and I began listening to their podcast even more faithfully and always showing love when I could. And they did the same for me with my articles or blog content.

When Mariah text me and invited me to be a guest on Melanin Voices podcast, Mommy Moves episode, it was a no-brainer! I was honored and excited! It was also my first podcast appearance *insert twerk emoji* I’m a faithful listener myself and started bragging to everyone who would listen after I told her that I was in! We recorded at Pat & Annie, this super cute boutique/studio in Aurora and had such a good time doing it! Look out for more collaborations from us in the future, but for now…..Go watch and listen to this episode!

On this episode we indulged in a bit of girl talk about goals and how we spent our NYE. Later in the show we discuss my blogging/content creation journey, how I balance that with motherhood and what I gained from my CURLFEST internship experience!

Tune in and watch now!! Then go back and listen to more from the ladies of Melanin Voices!

3 Ways I Create My Own Sunshine...and So Can You!

I almost stopped writing this post because I couldn’t think of an opening sentence. In one of my last Instagram posts I spoke about what I refer to as the "dark place." It usually looks like a cycle of negative thinking, feeling sad or low, being discouraged. Just feeling bad overall.  I’ve spent hours overthinking myself into inaction. I’ve lost relationships over fear of confrontation or being embarrassed in a conversation.
